Autumn 2011
I ran away with the circus...... to shoot a documentary for ITV1 with one of the oldest family Circuses in the UK.
New kit at that time included another pair of Lectrosonics radios, perfect for multiple wireless booms or camera hop, or just as good old fashioned radio mics! Plus a Lectrosonics radio headset for producers or directors.
Previously that year
Another couple of trips to Afghanistan for a Tiger Aspect project kept me busy through Spring, again embedded with troops in such places as Maruf, a really progressive town near the border with Pakistan and Mirmandab, a volatile Taliban stronghold. I got the chance to use some amazing new Zaxcom and Lectrosonics equipment courtesy of Richard at Meredith Audio. I also got to lose a few pounds thanks the winning combination of Army rations, 35 degree C heat and wearing Body Armour for 8 hours a day.
I spent a week in London at the end of April working on the NBC coverage of the Royal Wedding, always nice to catch up with my American friends, and great to be part of such a big event.
May saw me in Las Vegas for three weeks with Justin Lee Collins, shooting things as diverse as spending time with Matt Goss at Ceasars Palace, hanging out with Geno from Goodfellas Bail Bonds and accompanying local journalist Matt O'Brien meeting the homeless community who live in drainage tunnels under the strip, it was an amazing trip, and it was interesting to see the other side of Vegas.
As well as the longer projects, I've had plenty of day to day work on the usual suspects, such as Panorama, Tonight, The One Show, BBC News etc etc.
The second half of the year is looking busy, with a big project for ITV 1 on the horizon, and a few other projects looking likely, but there's space in the diary, so if you've got any projects coming up that need an experienced Sound Man, give me a call.
